Where is God in the in-between?

Do you have a “life verse” from the Bible? You know, a verse or passage in the scriptures that speaks directly to you? My life verse is Jeremiah 29:11-14.  You may have heard it before.

v. 11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord.

“They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

v. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen.

v. 13 If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me.

v.14 I will be found by you,” says the Lord.

“I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes.

I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and bring you home again to your own land.”

If your journey in this life has been anything like mine, it has been filled with highs and lows and a lot of in-between. You know, middle ground where most of our lives are spent. During our highs, we know beyond the shadow of a doubt that God is so very good and His plans for us are more amazing than anything we could ever ask for or imagine. We are generally joy filled and praising Jesus for all He has done.  During the valleys, or low times in our lives, we are genuinely praying over our future and hoping He hasn’t forgotten His promise to us in verse 11 – plans for good, to give us a future and a hope. It is during these times, we often see the most growth in our lives. We typically walk closer to Jesus while waiting for the outcome or the answer to whatever we may be experiencing.

That middle ground I mentioned earlier? The center. The half way point. Where is God during those times? Don’t forget verses 12-14. “In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me. I will be found by you.” Allow me to encourage you. No matter where you’re at on your journey, earnestly seek Jesus today.  It’s true, we often dread the valleys and long for those mountain top experiences, but friends, Jesus walks with us every single day, even in the middle. Even during the most mundane parts of our lives, He is there.  When you pray, He is listening. When you earnestly seek Him, you will find Him.

Heavenly Father, we love you and we are so grateful that we have the privilege of walking through life with you. Help us, Father, to walk closer to you, to truly seek your face and your will for our lives. Gently remind us Lord, that you are with us every single step of the way, whether we are celebrating on a mountain top, weeping through a valley or simply walking through the middle of our lives. Every single day and every single experience is a gift from you, Lord and we thank you for it.   Amen
