The Holy Spirit & Me

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons (daughters) of God. (Rom 8:14) NKJV.

It is God’s desire and design that we are led by Him in our lives. Not only to seek His direction in the big and significant but also in the small details of our everyday life. To build a life of relationship and trust in God. In order to build this relationship and trust, we must begin to seek His leading and direction in each of the moments within our lives. After all, He is the only 24/7 side by side companion that will never leave us. We are the children of God and we should be led by the Spirit of God.

I think we over analyze what it is like to be led by The Holy Spirit. We are looking for the spectacular rather than the supernatural. Following God in every decision small or great is a supernatural process even though it may not be the most spectacular, and is how most hear and are led by God.

It is The Spirit of God that speaks/leads our born-again spirit. It is not an audio voice or goosebumps; it is the Spirit of God speaking/leading our spirit. Can God speak audibly? Yes. There are many scripture references where God is speaking.  Can we get goosebumps possibly, but goosebumps are not recorded in the scriptures, so I would not follow goosebumps as a sign that God is speaking or moving. So how can we begin to sense the leading of the Holy Spirit? We must begin to practice learning in the small and mundane so when we need God to lead us in chaos we can be confident knowing God is leading us to safety.

God leads us by the Holy Spirit who, ministers, prompts, and convicts our born-again spirit, this can be called the inward witness. The inward witness is also relatable to our conscience. Remember a time in your life when you were about to do something that you knew you probably shouldn’t? That “check” which said, you better not, well, that is your conscience and is a great way to describe the sensing of the Holy Spirit to not do something, and there will be a sense of peace with an okay, to move forward. (Acts 15:28) NKJV. To sense the Holy Spirit, we must begin to practice.

A good way to practice is to make a grocery list and purposing leave something off the list, something that you would not normally purchase so that it’s not easily remembered. Follow your list and head to the check out. When the Holy Spirit reminds you of the item, you must go and get it even if you just checked out. It’s not always convenient to follow the Holy Spirit but follow Him anyway. I promise you will never regret it.

A few other ways is to ask God about taking a different route to work or leaving for work at a different time. You could ask what to eat for the day. I realize these may seem silly but if we do not learn to follow God in the least of things He will not be able to trust you to follow Him for greater things, and we all want you following God in the Greater Works. (Luk16:10) NKJV.

Lastly, the most important thing you need to know about following the inward witness is that there should always be peace. This does not mean that we will constantly have “peace” regarding all the circumstance in our lives. The bible is clear that troubles will come. (Jhn 16:33, Ps 34:19) NKJV. However, there will always be peace in your spirit. Even if it’s a difficult decision or you feel that you are being stretched past your ability, there will be a sense of peace in your spirit. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. (Isa 26:3) NKJV.

Finally, thoughts to remember; God does not lead you by fear or pressure, pressure is fear based, For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. (2Timothy 1:7) NKJV.   God does not lead by calamity or destruction. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and destroy. I have come that they (us) may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. (Jhn 10:10) NKJV.  God will never contradict His Word. (Malachi 3:6, Heb 13:8) NKJV.

I am excited for you and pray for your whole spirit, soul, and body to be complete and lacking in no good thing. You could even ask the Holy Spirit what to do or say to your spouse. Only God  knows the true depth of a persons thoughts, wants, and needs. When you don’t know what to say or do, the One who knows your spouse better then you has your answer.
